Amphan raised death toll due to cyclone in Bengal 98: Mamta Banerjee


Cyclone Amphen left a path of destruction in Bengal


Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that the death toll due to Cyclone Amphn has increased to 98 in West Bengal.

“According to the report of district magistrates, the death toll due to cyclone Amfan has increased from 86 to 98. We are sending money to those who lost their lives in the disaster,” Ms Banerjee said.

He said that the family of each person killed in the cyclone would get Rs 2.5 lakh, while the seriously injured and the moderately injured would get Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.

The Chief Minister also announced a fund of Rs 6,250 crore for construction and repair of tubewells along with providing assistance to affected people to build houses, help farmers, plantation of arecanut.

Referring to the resumption of power supply in the districts after the May 20 cyclone, Mamta Banerjee said that 80 percent of the electricity has been restored in six districts and 100 percent of electricity has been supplied in 10 others. All 273 power sub-stations in the districts have been restored.
